Genetics

Homozygous (Zygot): Carry two Curly Genes.

When breeding two Curly Selkirk Rex cats together, there is always the possibility of producing homozygous kittens, these cats are important in breeding program, they can produce all curly kittens even when bred to straight haired cats. But their outlooks are not so good, they have more tight curly hair, they loose their fur before the adult coat comes in. They have big ears and a much more angular face than their littermates

The symbol used to represent the gene for them is SeSe.

Heterozygous: Carry single Curly Genes.

Heterozygous

For example, when breeding these cats with straight haired Selkirk Rex or one of the acceptable outcrosses*, all kittens could either be Heterozygous or straight haired.

*We need to build up the gene pool and avoid the problem of excess inbreeding. For good development of the Selkirk Rex, outcross is valuable at this stage. Outcrossing might produce straight haired Selkirk Rex, these straight haired Selkirk Rex have the same great features and loving personality of those curly ones.

The symbol used to represent the gene for them is Sese.
